2018 Argyle Lunar New Year Parade: 2.24.18
The annual Argyle Lunar New Year Parade is a decades-old local tradition celebrating the start of the new Lunar Year. We hope you’ll join us as we kick off the Year of the Dog with music, colorful lion dances, entertainment, and more! Come along with a processional of local groups and floats starting at the Argyle “L” stop. Join Alderman Harry Osterman, Uptown United, and the Argyle business community for this special event!
Argyle Lunar New Year Celebration
Date: February 24, 2018
Parade: 1:00 PM (starts at Argyle L Station)
Route: Parade will kick-off underneath the CTA Argyle red line station at 1:00 PM and will head east along Argyle St., south along Sheridan Rd., west along Ainslie St., and north along Broadway to Argyle St.
Program: 1:45 PM (under the Argyle L Station)
Pop-ups & Affiliated Programming
Axis Lab will be hosting “TET 2018: First Morning” a community art pop-up event next to the Red Line Argyle Station at 1120 W Argyle Street. The event will feature Bầu Cua Cá Cọp (Traditional Vietnamese New Year Game), a community arts activity, a wishing well with small lanterns, homemade mooncakes, chai seed pudding, and a community photo booth.
First Sip Cafe will be hosting a small pop-up with drink specials, traditional Vietnamese lunar new year cakes, card games, and lucky red envelopes.
The Latin School of Chicago Community Space at 4956 N. Sheridan (corner of Sheridan and Argyle) welcomes you to drop in between the hours of 12pm-4pm for a fun-filled day of art workshops and family-friendly Lunar New Year fun. Activities include a Photo Booth (complete with dog props!), brush painting station, Chinese calligraphy station, paper lantern making, and other paper crafts. Or just drop in to see the community space, have a taste of some homemade hot soy milk (courtesy of Sun Wah BBQ restaurant) and try some sweet treats (niangao and ludougao–while supplies last).
