Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the launch of Black Shop Friday, a campaign to encourage Chicagoans to buy from Black-owned businesses on November 27– the day after Thanksgiving. The mission is to create greater economic equality by shining a light on the amazing Black businesses in and around our great city. This November 27th, put the Black in Black Friday, and add one Uptown Black-owned business to your shopping cart. Spend green. Shop Black. For more information on Black Shop Friday, click here.

When you spend money, think local first.

Before you order online or go to a big box store, see if you can get something at one of Uptown’s small businesses. Ask if they can special order something for you. Get one extra takeout meal each week. Try something new. (We have so many great restaurants!) Buy a gift card or take an online class. Donate to a local nonprofit organization.

Stay safe, wear a mask, and practice social distancing while thanking the small businesses that make our community great!
